I am posting this for John and Deb, thanks for all the time and effort you have done for this ride.

June 5, 6, 7, and 8th we will be with the Kentucky Ridge Runners in Harlan
County Kentucky. The RR's are going to be giving us guided tours from easy
to moderate. We must remember that we are riding the mountains and their
easy is more like our moderate.

LODGING: If you go to the Ridge Runner ATV web site you will find several
places to stay. We have decided to stay at Mountain Aire Motel located in
Harlan, KY. The cost there ranges from $60.00 to 72.00 a night plus tax.
If you plan to stay 3 nights or more you will get a 10% discount. This is
a clean and very friendly place to stay. We have stayed there several
times. There are two (2) campgrounds that you may decide to stay at if
you are going to camp.

NOTE: WE HAVE DECIDED NOT TO CAMP. THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS BUT THE MAIN
REASON IS THE ROADS YOU MUST TRAVEL IN WEST VIRGINIA. THEY HAVE SEVERAL
CURVES, NARROW ROADS AND ROCK LEDGES THAT HANG OVER THE ROAD.

On Tuesday, June 8th we will be traveling to Pineville, WV which is
approximately 175 miles from Harlan, KY. From there we will be riding the
Pinnacle Creek Trail System and hopefully the Indian Ridge Trail System.
The local people seem to believe these two (2) trail systems will be joined
by the time we arrive.

COST: The fee to ride the Hatfield McCoy trail system is $50.00 per year
for non West Virginia residence. You can ride until December 31, 2010 for
no additional cost. You can also get all the rules and fees on the Hatfield
McCoy web site.

LODGING: We have reserved rooms in the Executive Inn for June 8th and 9th.
We must check out 11:00 am on the 10th however, we can leave our vehicles
and still ride the trails there on the 10th. If we do not want to ride
there we can travel on to our next destination.

These rooms are reserved under John Higgins with TRA. To reserve your room
you can either mention John's name or TRA. There are six (6) rooms with
kitchenettes that rent for 152.58 for two (2) nights including tax and six
(6) rooms without kitchenettes that rent for 130.78 for two (2) nights
including tax. These room will only be held until May 1, 2010. On that
date we will call and release the hold on any room that has not been
reserved. The telephone number there is 304 732 8566.

You may also choose some rooms at Happy Trails right across the street from
Executive Inn. They also have an area you can pull in campers. It is very
tight but can be done. You can find their information on the Hatfield
McCoy web site

On June 10th we will be moving to Gilbert, WV where we will ride the
Rockhouse Trail System. This is our favorite. The distance between
Pineville and Gilbert is approx. 50 miles. Again on hilly, curvy, narrow
roads.

LODGING: We will be staying at the Mountain Breeze Motel. The rate is
from $60.00 to $70.00 per night plus tax. We have stayed here before and
found it to be clean. You will need to call 304 664 2238 to make
reservations. We were not able to reserve the entire motel, sixteen (16)
rooms so you will need to call and reserve it soon. They already have 3
rooms reserved.

Also, there is the Twin Hollow Campgrounds and Cabins. This is actual on
the trail and has a beautiful scenery. The road to get there is up the
mountain approximately 2 miles on a bumpy and gravel road. The Cabins rent
for $110.00 per night for 2 people and $20.00 per additional person per
night plus tax. We do not have the rate for camping. They do have a web
site. You can call 304 664 8864 or 304 664 9001 to make reservations.

We will be heading for home on Sunday, June 13, 2010. We are looking
forward to this week. Please let us know if you are going to join us.

I would like to see who is camping, or who is staying motels. I will more then likely be going solo, so tent camping is easy for me, but want to be near the majority!! I'm guessing we will be doing off park rides in Evarts so we won't have to pay on park admission :79

Kyle and I are going and camping also. Have asked for guides in Evarts and will be in contact again closer to time to see what guides are available and which days hoping for 3 days of offpark trips.

I'm currently planning on camping with the family (toyhauler). I'm not expecting the wife and kids to ride every day (I'm sure they'll do some 'sight seeing' without trail riding).

Since we have the hotels listed I know some of us are looking into where we'll be camping. For us to try to say close, If anyone has made plans or are sure where they'll be camping--- post it so others will know.

I know in Evarts we are looking at North camping lot or some may want to camp at South camping lot.
Currenly looking at these--but could change
Pinnacle Creek Trail/ Pineville --- PINNACLE CREEK CAMPGROUND
Rockhouse Trail System/ Gilbert ----- Twin Hollow Campground

Duke,
I know of a nice small house that is comfortable for 6 people that I can get for
$100 a night. You can ride you 4-wheeler to it also . Has a nice kitchen and bath and 2 bed rooms. It would be easier that going back and forth to Harlan to get in a motel.

I was looking over the dates and believe there is a misprint.

"LODGING: We have reserved rooms in the Executive Inn for June 8th and 9th.
We must check out 11:00 am on the 9th however, we can leave our vehicles
and still ride the trails there on the 9th. If we do not want to ride

It states check out on the 9th and ride on the 9th. Both should be the 10th correct?

Just trying to clear it up. Thanks

Here is my lodging agenda:

5,6,7- Tent camp @ NOrth campground (Evarts)
8,9- Tent camp @ Pinnacle campground (Pineville)
10,11,12- Tent camp @ Twin Hallow Campground (Gilbert)

Preliminary $ numbers for the whole trip if I travel and lodge bymyself is around $800.00, this is on the high side. I'm looking @ not hauling my trailer, but depends on space for supplies.
